Autistic-Affirming (neurodiversity-affirming) Therapy

I work with adults who are autistic or who are neurodivergent in ways similar to autism, and people with sensory sensitivities from a neurodiversity affirming framework.

Autistic people see and interact with the world around them in different ways than neurotypical people do. These ways are not bad or wrong, they are just different.

Often, autistic people feel like they don’t fit in or that everyone else has a how-to- book that they have not read. The social world we live in might feel overwhelming and hard to manage.

As we work together, one goal will be to help you increase your own self-awareness of neurodiversity and the unique ways you see and understand the world around you. We will use that knowledge to identify ways for you to build off your strengths and passions to live the life you want to live. This might include developing skills in self-advocacy so that you can better ensure your home, work, and community environments are aligned with your unique sensory, learning, or attentional differences, and learning strategies to help you achieve your personal goals.

We will talk about whether any of these differences in the ways you see and understand the world are interfering with your ability to live life the way you would like to, or be the best version of you that you can be. If so, we will identify strategies that might help. These could include things you can do to make the world an easier place to be, skills you might learn to use, and ways you can let other people know to behave or do things differently
